Self Assessment tax returns – get them submitted on time

You must submit a tax return if in a tax year you were:

  • self-employed and earned more than £1,000
  • a partner in a business partnership

You may not need to send a return if your only income is from your wages or pension. But you may need to send one if you have any other untaxed income, such as:

  • money from renting out a property
  • tips and commission
  • income from savings, investments and dividends
  • foreign income

If you are unsure then contact us to discuss your personal circumstances.

For the tax year ended 5 April 2021 you must submit your tax return online no later than 31 January 2022 and pay any tax due by that date.

If you do not submit a required return on time then you will be charged penalties. You will also be charged interest on any late payments.

Getting your tax return wrong can be costly and if you need help then give one of the team a call on 01244 400244 or drop us a message via the contact form.
